Magnolia’s long layoff hardly mattered as the Hotshots bounced back strong from a sorry loss to Brgy. Ginebra via a 22-point demolition of Blackwater, 91-69, Sunday in the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Hotshots, who lost to their Manila Clasico rival exactly two weeks ago after opening the conference with 5 consecutive wins, improved to a league-leading record of 6-1 while dealing the Bossing their 6th defeat in 9 outings.

Ian Sangalang paced the 2014 PBA Grand Slam champs with a 17-point, 7 rebound performance in 27 minutes of action.

“Galing kami sa talo, and ang haba nga ng break namin,” said lead assistant coach Jason Webb during the post-game presser.

“This was a bounce-back game. That’s what we were talking about during the preparations, and the guys responded,” he added.

Nick Rakocevic also notched 17 points in addition to 15 boards, 2 assists, a steal and a block while Jerrick Ahanmisi chipped in 13 markers. Jio Jalalon finished with team-highs of 9 assists and 4 steals to go with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Mark Barroca contributed 9 markers while Calvin Abueva, who was recognized during the halftime break for becoming the 50th member of the league’s 1,000-rebound club, added 6.
