Mark Barroca celebrates 10th year with Magnolia franchise, signs fresh 3-year contract

Mark Barroca reached a career milestone by entering his 10th season with the Magnolia franchise.

The 34-year old native of Zamboanga City, who was taken by the now-defunct Shopinas.com Clickers with the 5th overall pick in the 2011 draft and then dealt immediately to the Hotshots (then called B-MEG Llamados) in a three-team trade, signed a fresh three-year deal to make it official.

Barroca won 6 championships with the team, including a Grand Slam in 2014, and bagged 2 PBA Finals MVP along the way.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Magnolia management sa tiwala nila sa akin, specifically kay Boss RSA (Ramon S. Ang), Boss Alfrancis (Chua), and (Magnolia Board) Governor Rene Pardo sa 10 years na pag serbisyo ko sa team,” said Barroca who is represented by Ed Ponceja.

The 5-foot-10 product of Far Eastern University is now the longest-tenured Magnolia player who hasn’t played for any other team in the league. Following his footsteps are Ian Sangalang, Justin Melton, Alvin Abundo, and Jio Jalalon.

In addition, he has played a total of 453 consecutive games for the franchise. The record ranks second only to LA Tenorio’s 663.

Armed with a new contract, the 7-time All-Star is now looking forward to leading his team to a better finish in Season 46 after falling short of their goal of entering the Philippine Cup Finals for the third consecutive year.
