San Miguel def Magnolia 98-91 [PBA S48 PH Cup | Apr. 26, 2024]

In a highly anticipated matchup, defending champion San Miguel will face off against the formidable Magnolia Chicken Timplados in the main event of the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City today, April 26.

This game marks the first meeting between the two teams since their intense showdown in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., as fans eagerly await the clash between these powerhouse teams.

San Miguel clinched the championship last February, defeating Magnolia with a 4-2 series victory in the import-laden conference, securing their 29th league title and solidifying their status as favorites in the Philippine Cup.

With an impressive undefeated record of 7-0 in the conference, San Miguel aims to maintain their dominance and secure a top 2 finish in the elimination round to earn a valuable twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Coach Jorge Gallent has emphasized the importance of focus and determination as they strive towards their goal.

“They (Hotshots) are trying to also get the twice-to-beat advantage. I’m sure that’s also in their minds so we just have to play well, do the things we have to do to beat a team like Magnolia,” said Gallent.

On the other hand, the Hotshots have been on a winning streak, claiming victory in their last four games and securing the second spot in the standings with a 5-2 record.

Led by veterans Mark Barroca, Ian Sangalang, Calvin Abueva, and Paul Lee, Magnolia is determined to add another title to their collection, with their last championship coming in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.
