NLEX def Magnolia, 87-74 [PBA S48 PH Cup | Apr. 6, 2024]

Nearing the halfway mark of the PBA Philippine Cup, the pro league finally kicks off on Saturday a series of gigs at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium inside the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, pitting NLEX versus Magnolia in the 7:30 p.m. mainer.

Featuring a wooden flooring used in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, NAS is opening its door to the PBA for seven play dates, including special weekend bills on July 6 and 7 ushered in by the 4:30 p.m. tiff between Rain or Shine and NorthPort.

Incidentally, Rain or Shine and Magnolia were two of the four PBA teams that last played in the venue 13 years ago.

Magnolia clashes with NLEX coming from a tough 87-77 loss to Barangay Ginebra in an Easter Clasico marked by another ugly incident involving Calvin Abueva. It led to commissioner Willie Marcial slapping Abueva a one-game suspension, rendering his absence in this NAS Saturday card.

And that could make things harder for coach Chito Victolero’s side versus the NLEX team which is among the tourney’s hottest with a 4-1 win-loss card.

On the other hand, the Hotshots, the Commissioner’s Cup runners-up, are at 1-1.

The Road Warriors are unbeaten in their last three outings but have been idle since a 103-97 whipping of the Blackwater Bossing on March 13.
