Hotshots release Michael Calisaan

Magnolia has released incoming third-year wingman Michael Calisaan into the PBA’s unrestricted free agent list.

The 25-year old Calisaan, who was nabbed by the Hotshots with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft, is the latest casualty of the largest-ever draft pool in league history which is set take part in the upcoming rookie draft on March 14.

The native of Pampanga and cousin of big man Ian Sangalang spent two uneventful seasons with the team and saw action for a measly 16 games and averaged 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds per outing.

Calisaan came on board right after the Hotshots claimed the 2018 Governors’ Cup crown and hopes were high that the former San Sebastian Stag would have an immediate impact right off the bat.

He, however, failed to land a spot in the regular rotation even with the prolonged absence of Marc Pingris as head coach Chito Victolero preferred to go with Rome dela Rosa, Jackson Corpuz and just recently Aris Dionisio.

Calisaan was fielded in 9 times during the 2020 Philippine Cup inside the PBA bubble in Clark, Pampanga and contributed 1.1 points and 1.7 boards off the bench as the Hotshots failed to get past Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the quarterfinal round.

He is the second member of the 2018 draft class chosen in the first round to be released after MJ Ayaay of the Alaska Aces.
