Hotshots absorb 17-point loss to Tropang Giga in Finals Game 4

TNT moved on the verge of capturing the All-Filipino crown after conquering Magnolia, 106-89, Wednesday night in Game 4 of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Rookie Mikey Williams paced the Tropang Giga with 26 points on 9 of 15 shooting spiked by 6 three-pointers while Jayson Castro finished with 12 points 1 rebound and 1 assist. Dave Marcelo added 10 markers, 5 boards and 1 block.

The Tropang Giga displayed their eagerness to put an end to their 6-year title drought after leading by as many as 25 points in the lopsided contest.

“Well, first of all, shout out to Troy (Rosario). Really though he shouldn’t be playing, the only reason why we played him was really for inspirational purposes. As you can see, he couldn’t even catch the ball. But he said he wanted to try. And I thought by him being there, the message of courage was going to rub off on his teammates,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes.

“So really great heart shown by Troy here and I think everyone followed. Our team is constructed in such a way, like I said already before, we really have no first group, second group. It’s just we have 15 guys and anyone who is asked to come in to play a role like this guy beside me (Ryan Reyes). It’s accountable to be able to deliver what their role is. I wish I had a better answer but ganoon talaga, the way our team is constructed, anyone can start, anyone can come off the bench,” he added.

The Hotshots had a late scoring run in the 4th quarter but couldn’t manage to equalize the series at 2 games apiece after being demolished by the flagship franchise of the MVP group.

Calvin Abueva topscored for the 14-time PBA champs with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while Ian Sanggalang racked up 17 points and 10 rebounds. Paul Lee contributed 15 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
